Ettiene du Toit returns to Tarmac

After almost 2 months of building and preparing our new VW Polo cup race car for the 2013 National Super Series all boiled down to 2 heats and a total of 18 laps of racing this past Saturday At the WPMC racing complex Killarney in Cape Town.

We are very pleased to report back that  driver, Ettiene du Toit, after being absent from track racing for more than 9 years managed to get a overall 2nd position in the Masters class in the VW Polo Cup Series with a brilliant driving display  of pure talent and experience!

Friday morning  1st first practice was on a fairly moist track due to some light morning showers at the track. This left us with only 3 more 20 minute practice sessions before we had to qualify for starting grid position at 15h35 in the afternoon.  All went well and we were fastest in our class and well up in the 26 car entry line up till the clutch of the Polo started to slip due to a oil seal leak on the sealed Engine –Gearbox unit we received from VW Motorsport factory.  There was no time to fix this problem before our Qualifying session in time and Ettiene had to go out and to his best with the Polo…

A time of 1:27.856 was set by Ettiene. The pole position time was 1:26.420. This was only 1.385 seconds of 1st but his put our Polo in only 21st on the grid and 3rd in the Masters class with the best position by the P1 Master driver in 10th spot. This meant that we had a tremendous task ahead in order to finish well for the weekend.

We finished up at 10h30 on Friday evening opening up the gearbox of the Polo to replace the leaking oil seal and replace the clutch unit. This was achieved together with 2 other helping hands.

Saturday morning the Polo was running very well after our efforts of the previous evening. Our time of course improving a lot due to the fact that the clutch not slipping anymore.

Sponsors, members of the press, clients & friend were entertained in the McCarthy boma at the racetrack. The scene was set for some excellent racing for the day!

RACE 1 13h20: After a great start from Ettiene in this 8 laps race we started moving up the field by overtaking a car a lap to eventually finish in 14th position overall and 2nd in the Masters class! A brilliant & ever consistent driving display.

RACE 2 16h25: After having to start this race back in 19th position ( due to the format Polo Cup is running your fastest and second fastest laps in the qualifying session counts toward your starting position for race one and two) Ettiene managed to gain some positions and this enabled him to end being in second position in the Masters class for race 2 and also overall position for the day!
