Riebeek Valley Rally - Team 467

Saturday 1 July 2017 dawned with chilly, but near perfect, rally conditions in the Swartland district with the recent rain removing dust from the rallying equation and with no wind there would be no chill factor. Beautiful sunshine saw hordes of spectators at every vantage point and set the scene for the perfect start to the second half of the 2017 Western Province Rally Championship. Team 467 enjoyed a perfect result on the Ceres Toyota Rally but an unexpected engine failure led to a almost standard engine being prepared as interim. Reliability and consistency the goal for round four of the championship rather than a flatout charge the objective as the team unveiled the colours of their valued new sponsors at Meiring Primary School in Riebeek Kasteel on 1 July 2017.

Kranzle SA, Würth, Quickshade and Genises Autoglass, Supa Mac, Stunt Network, Imperial Toyota Cape Gate, Voyabex, Teng Tools, Tool Imports, Tyre Zone, Avis Van Rental, Kontra Signs, Castrol, Noise Boys and AA Powder Coaters making it possible for Team 467 to challenge for class and overall honours. Their contribution towards making the combined CCMCC / CPMCC event a success represented on the technical panel resplendant on the sides of each competing car.

Ettiene du Toit and Patrick Vermaak accepted the fact that their car was somewhat down on power, but it was well prepared, reliable, and the crew confident that a steady and consistent approach would reap rewards in the Swartland. Not always easy to hold back in the competitive world of motorsport, especially when it was obvious that the competition have been preparing well for the second half of the championship.

The opening two stages the longest in distance on the event and as such influenced the outcome quite dramatically as teams set off in earnest to establish a solid base. Though there were indications of serious challenges, most faltered and after stage two Ettiene du Toit and Patrick Vermaak shifted their strategy to consolidating their position with consistent stage times. The pair staying out of trouble and the JC Human prepared Toyota running like clockwork.

For the third time in four events they reached the final Park Fermé as the first all WP crew home in second position overall, 1st In class S3 and 1st WBMK team home. A position which now sees Ettiene du Toit move into the overall points lead. Results in rallying are achieved by the driver and navigator, but it requires a dedicated team of individuals and support from loyal sponsors to realise those achievements and Team 467 look forward to the penultimate rally of the season at the Killarney International raceway on 28/29 July 2017.
