WBMK Ceres Rally

Saturday, May 31, 2014
Ceres, Boland, Western Cape

Weather almost perfect and as expected the Ceres stages put the teams to the test. Julian Calvert and Louise de Goede suffered a heavy roll on SS1 which have seen both spending the night in Panorama. We wish bot a speedy and complete recovery. Anthony Connelly and Randall Marais follwed suit at exactly the same spot when the cars returned for SS4 but fortunately the crew was completely unhurt in the second incident.

Final results have been posted, with the fights for second overall the highlight and some interesting positions for crews? More to follow.

Weather prediction improving with 65% chance of overcast weather @23ºC / 20knots wind  expected from 12h00 and 85% chance of rain @10ºC / 15knots wind only from 18h00. Entries could be as good as 24 should Ashley be confirmed in his Ford and Andy in the Mitsu whilst Luke will be in the LLJ R2. Mike and Winston also part of the fun for Saturday.

21 Teams entered. Paul-Hendrik Franken has had to withdraw to concentrate on a pending examination but Ashley Haigh-Smith, Luke van Rensburg and Winston Neethling have entered.

Nineteen strong Entry for the WBMK Ceres Rally still lacks the names of Ashley Haigh-Smith (PMC Gauteng has priority), Anwar Levy (still rebuilding after rolling in Bredasdorp) and Jacques Janse van Rensburg (Vredendal Toyota?) to name but a few.

Father and son, Harry and Günther Giliomee, will be celebrating the youngsters birthday by making their debut as a team in the Toyota Breadvan. Can Shaun Jones get close to the Scooby of John Peiser? Time will tell.

Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms have been published. Convenient 11h00 Start for the Rally and very compact format making this event very Spectator friendly.

Planning four Special Stages totalling 80km with just 33km Open Section for a Total Route distance of just 113km makes the 2014 WBMK Ceres extremely compact and cost effective!

Numbers function at the CPMCC Rollbar Killarney on Wednesday 2120:00 May 2014.

Fresh from winning the International between Namibia - England and South Africa at the Tygerberg Raceway on 15 February 2014 the chances are looking good that we may see Jan Everson lead a group of visiting rallyists to the popular Ceres Rally on 31 May 2014. The Seal Consulting S1600 R2 VW Polo made it's debut on the 45th Total Tara Rally in November 2013 and Jan is slowly but surely gaining experience to be a serious challenger for top honours.

Then there is that pesky little Datsun 160U in the Eastern Cape that have it's sights set on mixing it with his former club mates and potentially rattling a few of the established feathers. Prospects that make Ceres look very entertaining indeed.

Back in 1979 Uwe Molzahn and Louis van Zyl won the prestigious 11th Total Tara Rally Namibia in their Ford Escort, but made an ever lasting impression by contesting the first round of the Western Cape Regional Rally Championship. With South West Africa at the time considered an extension of the Western Cape their presence was welcomed and it certainly built good relation at all levels.

Round three of the Western Province Rally Championship might be considered short, but beware of calling it sweet before you have actually completed this challenging event around the friendly Boland town of Ceres. If it remains dry the roads are deceptively quick, but extremely unforgiving if you should step off line and if it is wet it becomes totally unforgiving. The Overberg is fast with...

Storm warnings cleared into a stunning winters day when twenty two teams arrived at Ceres Toyota for round three of the 2014 Western Province Rally Championship on Saturday 31 May. Not only did Dealer Principal, Francois van Wyk, and his friendly staff have welcoming coffee and sandwiches ready for the appreciative competitors and crews, the presence of Radio Witzenberg – Disa 105.9Fm...
