WBMK Gymkhana 100

Date:
Saturday, September 13, 2014
Location:
25th Club Mykonos, Langebaan, West Coast

The 100th Witzenberg Motorklub Gymkhana have received 100 Entries! Changes will happen before Saturday but please check your entry and confirm that the information is correct as the Scoring Computer will be receiving this information. Thank you for the brilliant support - let us enjoy an exciting but always safe event on Saturday!

As 13 September 2014 approaches just a sincere thank you to Club Mykonos Resort Langebaan and Casino Mykonos for the opportunity to return to the "home' of the Witzenberg Motorklub Gymkhana Championship. Old friends of motorsport in general, UNIREF, for providing the much needed support through Hilary and Donevan Denyssen. Danie Burger who have been burning rubber between all the authorities as the man on the ground on the West Coast, Marius and Leatitia Bester, for the provision of the Unicom Services Public Address System for the event itself. Having Neels Rabe and Pieter Swanepoel return behind the microphones should have many drivers cringe, but great to have the original voices back for the 100th Witzenberg Motorklub Gymkhana. Hermie de Kock was the first man to show support for this event through Witzenberg Bande and it was valiuble indeed.

A week away and there are but four slots remaining of a possible 100 entry! Though there will inevitably be a number of further movements leading up to the event it is a great show of support, from as far away as the dreaded Gauteng. Six cars will leave Johannesburg on Wednesday to join us at Club Mykonos with these cars entered in various configurations to make the trip worthwhile. To Anton Wanneburg and André Hartman, you really are stunning Coathangers!

Local support have been good too though many a car was still being rebuilt at the time of writing. Former champions that have indicated that they will at least be present in person include Mike Nathan D6 N1, Werner Koekemoer D2, Anton van Bosch D2, Dave Köpke D2, Anton Slabbert D1, Izak van Zyl D2, Duncan Jepthas D1, André Dreyer D1, Cobus Erasmus D1, Patrick Vermaak N3 and Liezel Oosthuizen N1. It is anticipated that even more may join the group on the day.

If you have any intentions to enter your paperwork should be processed as soon as possible. A waiting list will be started once the 100 mark is exceeded.

Who has the best archive of old gymkhana routes? On 05 May 2001 Mike Nathan and Mike Smith took the first ever victory on the unique twin route format in the legendary blue Rustler LDV. They may just have another shot at it on 13 September. Let us see who posts the correct route first!

Entries are open. Please submit as early as possible. The Coathangers have already produced sixteen entries. You made Mykonos - now you can at the 100th WBMK event for the crowing of the 25th King of Mykonos.

Much work ahead, but the good news is that the return to Club Mykonos have been approved and this iconic venue will undoubtedly form the centre of attention as all the former champions have indicated that they will be considering a return or at least be present for this event on 13 September 2014.

Friday 11 July 2014 said to be the day on which we will know whether the 100th WBMK Gymkhana will be returning to the iconic dual Club Mykonos Resort Langebaan layout. Without a doubt the most intimidating gymkhana route to date and something every gymkhana competitor dreams of doing at some time of his career.
